This year we are delighted to be able to offer the opportunity to become involved in Flat racehorse ownership in an exciting new venture.
At Percy's our dream has always been to successfully race our homebred stock. That dream came true for us when Lady Chef won at Lingfield and was third at Goodwood in her debut year. Now we want to share that success and satisfaction with our customers and friends.
Having purchased two new broodmares from the Goff sales in Ireland in November 2004 we are now offering shares in one of the youngsters they produced.
Peacock Blue's stunning grey filly, Percys Lavender Blue is by ORPEN, a Gr.1 wining 2year old, by LURE, who is a son of the great DANZIG from the immediate family of DANEHILL.
Orpen was champion 2 year old in Ireland in 1998 and won 2 races at 2 years. Despite being a late May foal on debut at Goodwood on August 1st he won. He followed that by winning France's first juvenile Group 1 race of the season, the Prix Morny on August 23rd. He was also Group 1 Classic placed at a mile, in the Irish 2000 Guineas.
Orpens first crop of foals beat even Danehill's record, with 23 juvenile winners by mid October. He has sired more 2 year old winners than great stallions such as Royal Applause, Green Desert, Efisio, Cadeaux Genereux, Pivotal, Selkirk and Indian Ridge.
The best of them to date are the top-class filly Gracefully, Group 1 French 1000 Guineas winner Torrestrella, Stakes winner Kaypen, and Group 2 Temple Stakes runner up Autumn Pearl.
Orpen had also sired 45 individual 3 year old winners by this time last year, only Sadlers Wells and Linamix had more.
Peacock Blue is by the New Zealand stallion OCTAGONAL, who is by ZABEEL. Octagonal was champion 2 year old in 1995 and champion 3 year old the following year. He had 5 starts at 2 years old, won 3 times and was second twice, at three he had 7 wins, five of which were in Gr. 1 races. By the time he retired to stud he had started 28 times, had 14 wins and 7 seconds, and never came lower than 4th place. Ten of his wins were in Gr.1 races, and when he retired to stud he was Australia's highest prize money earner, having won over $5.89 million.
Her dam is Tagiki, an Irish Mare who ran as a 2 year old and won in Italy. She has now produced three winners, the best of them being 'Peacock Alley' who won three times as a 3 year old and has been placed five times winning over £48,000. We have high hopes for Percys Lavender Blue, and as you can see, with good reason. She is growing into a classy athletic yearling, with a bit of the attitude and fight that you need in fillies to stand up against the colts.
Percys Lavender Blue is being offered to shareholders because we think she has got what it takes to provide action and enjoyment on the racetrack as a two year old, as well as residual value as a potential broodmare later.
A total of 12 shares will be available in Percys Lavender Blue. A smaller syndicate will enable shareholders to feel part of the team, and enable us at Percy's to accommodate the whole Syndicate once a year for our annual meeting. This will be held in November of each year, beginning in 2006, and your share in the horse will include a night's stay, a gourmet dinner and wine, as well as the chance to view the horses on the Estate and discuss future plans for Percys Lavender Blue.
Unlike some syndicates each shareholder will own a share in the horse, not lease it. The Percy's Country Hotel Racing Partnership will be registered as owners with Weatherby's, and the horse will be insured.
Members will be kept fully informed and involved in the progress of their horse through our website, regular e-mails and faxes or letters, as well as phone calls from our syndicate and equestrian managers. Visits to see your horse train will be arranged throughout the year, as well as invitation to the trainers annual open day.
Badges will be available for all shareholders on race days, and Percy's may provide hospitality at bigger race meets.
Shares for Percys Lavender Blue are available now and are secured with an initial payment of £1500. This will include all keep, training, farrier and vets bills until she is placed with a trainer in the second part of 2006. After November 2006 the cost will be £183 per month, fully inclusive of all training, gallop, vets and keep fees.
