Put this hotel on your bucket list!

We had a two night break at Percy's to celebrate my retirement with close friends. We booked all 7 rooms and had exclusive use which was fantastic. After an 11 hour drive from Norfolk cooped up in a minibus I was hoping that our trip would be worth the effort, it was ! Tony met us on arrival and was very welcoming. His dry sense of humour and general bonhomie during our stay kept the atmosphere very relaxed and informal. The rooms themselves were all very comfortable and well equipped with thoughtful touches like fresh milk and fruit. Tina's cooking is sublime, not arty farty, not pretentious but superbly well cooked and presented, using only the finest ingredients. After breakfast on the second day Tina took time out to give my brother in law a cookery lesson after he explained that he had been struggling to cook scallops successfully and could never get them right. It was a nice touch and much appreciated.

Sadly heavy rain and wind kept us from exploring the estate, which was a shame - maybe next time !

The visit was such a success that my friends want an annual reunion !

GIVING PERCY'S A UNIQUE EDGE

"Very relaxing"

Stayed at Percy's for a couple of nights for a midweek break and had a really enjoyable time. Very relaxed style with a warm welcome. Very clean rooms in a straight forward contemporary style with a comfortable bed and lovely fresh linen. We had dinner both nights at their restaurant, monkfish one night followed by lamb the next evening, both were excellent. Tina has a natural understanding of her ingredients and how to prepare them, whether it is their excellent home produced lamb or the toast and marmalade at breakfast . The food was not over fussy and chefy but it was cooked and presented beautifully. The quality of the ingredients was second to none , many of which they produce themselves. Breakfast was also extremely good, made to order, thank goodness.

It was so refreshing going to Percy's, it has a laid back approach but we never felt neglected, thank you for a relaxing break.

"Cannot wait to return!"

We had the most wonderful day and night at Percy's and left feeling relaxed well fed and eager to return for a longer stay. On our arrival, we were met by three friendly and exuberant dogs who showed us the way to the reception where we met one of the hosts Tina. Tina and our four legged friends led us to our room, Tarragon, which was a lovely spacious, clean and welcoming space. Our fridge was stocked with fresh milk, there was a full fruit basket and the most delicious home made chocolate cake waiting for us in our room upon our arrival. We spent the day exploring the 130 acre grounds whilst breathing in the almost unpolluted air. In the evening, we met Tony, our other host, who was extremely welcoming and great to talk to, he was very knowledgeable about wine and food and an amazing waiter. Tony serves front of house whilst Tina prepares and cooks the meal. Percy's offers one menu each night but will offer alternatives to suit needs/wants. I cannot find the right words to describe how simply delicious our 4 course meal was, each plate was beautifully presented to complement the stunning flavours and we were able to savour each course without feeling hurried. Tina is an incredibly talented chef and still took time to talk to us about the meal etc. The breakfast the next morning was equally as delicious. Both Tina and Tony are extremely hard working and committed to offering the best experience from the home-reared meat, home-grown herbs and vegetables to the welcoming touches in the room. This is a real treat for any aged visitor, an idyllic escape offering great conversation, amazing food, fresh air and time to relax, we simply cannot wait to return. "great secret escape !!!!"

we booked this through secret escapes and thats exactly what it was. we stayed the first weekend of october .on our arrival we were upgraded from the 'thyme' room we were expecting to 'lavender'. beautiful room spacious with all amenities,comfortable bed and a lovely cold bottle of fizz in the fridge for us to enjoy.delicious home made cake both days to have with either coffee or tea .we truly felt spoilt. the best thing about being there was it was so quiet and peaceful.a real get away.just what the doctor ordered. tony and tina were brilliant hosts ,lovely to chat with other guests that were staying before we sat down to a four course set meal,which was absolutely beautiful,it was i will admit more per head than what we would normally pay but it was so worth it ,to be able to sit down and enjoy a meal without having to rush and take our time to enjoy the food which obviously is a labour of love .i would definately say stay at percys because it really is worth it as that SECRET ESCAPE....

"PERFECTION"

if you want an out of the way break, in idyllic surroundings with fabulous food and lovely hosts, this is the place for you. The owners Tina and Tony are so welcoming.

Percy's is a 130 acre organic farm -- and it is a working farm. Tina and Tony grow their own vegetables and herbs. They have sheep -- so there is organic fresh lamb. They source eggs and chicken from a local farm.

Tina is an excellent chef. In the 1990s Tina and Tony used to own and run a restaurant in North Harrow called Percy's. We lived locally at that time and going there was an absolute treat. We had our wedding breakfast there. Tina's cooking has always been top class. That certainly hasn't changed.

Tina and Tony decided on a lifestyle change and moved to Devon. As soon as you arrive you at Percy's in Devon you are spoilt. The lovely large rooms have tea and coffee making facilities every day there is different delicious home-made cake. There's also a basket of fruit and bottled water. We were in the violet room which has a double jacuzzi as well as a shower. I am disabled. My husband and I had no problems with the room or getting round the estate.

Breakfast is lovely. A choice of juices, cereal and porridge (porridge is delicious). Then can have a cooked breakfast or eggs such as an omelette. Toast goes with home-made jam/marmalade. Tina was picking blackberries daily and making jam every day while we were there.

My husband and I absolutely loved the dinners. After every course for the five nights we were there he said "lovely." And it truly was. It was a four course menu. It is hard to choose my favourite but a main course of minced cod in fresh herbs in a very light pastry was like nothing I have ever tasted. My husband agreed. Also a sticky toffee pudding which was very very light was extra delicious

Their collie had given birth to puppies and there were seven delightful six-week old puppies who are very naughty and funny. The dogs live on the estate so if you do not want to interact with them you don't have to. The same for the two ginger cats. Tony assured us there was a third one she never made an appearance. There are also two very sweet labradors, who are getting on a bit.Tony also keeps horses.

We stayed there five nights and I just cannot quite express how much we enjoyed it.

We haven't been there for a while because it is a long way from where we live. It is approximately 1 hour further than Exeter. We will certainly come back soon to enjoy the wonderful Percy's.

"Just go there!"

Just returned from a fabulous stay at Percy's. Absolute bliss. From the location, to the wonderfully decorated and comfortable room (we were in "Dill"), to the stunning food and warm welcome from Tony and Tina, you really couldn't find anywhere better for a relaxing and enjoyable trip away. We took our two retrievers with us and if they could talk, they would endorse everything I just said!

One tip: don't leave without buying a copy of Tina's cookbook.

Already looking forward to our next break there!
